Clara City man killed in auto
Drewes Grahuis, is dead and Carl Henning injured as No. 13 struck auto near Murdock.
Drewes Grashuis, cashier of the Citizen's State Bank at Clara City, Minn., was killed and Carl Henning, real estate dealer of the same city, was seriously injured when Great Northern passenger train No. 13, due in Benson at 3:30 p.m., struck their car automobile in Murdock last Thursday afternoon.
According to passengers who talked with members of the train crew, the Clara City men were attempting to cross the railroad tracks from the south when the accident occured.
The fireman is reported to have said that the first intimation he had of the accident was when he saw the coupte hurtling thru the air. The car was tossed into a ditch and demolished.
Mr. Grashuis was picked up by a soldier, a passenger on the train, and members of the train crew and placed in the baggage car. He died before the train reached the Murdock station. Mr. Henning was taken to a nearby residence. At Benson Mr. Grashuis' body was removed to the undertaking rooms of A.J. Holland and the family in Clara City notified.
Mr. Grashuis was born in Holland 60 years ago. Besides his son he is survived by his widow. He was widely known in this section of the state, having been of the earliest residents of Clara City.
Drewes Grashuis wordt op 12 september 1858 geboren in Warffum als derde kind van Aldert Grashuis en Willemtje van der Bleek. In 1888, Drewes is dan 29, emigreert hij naar de VS. Hij trouwt met Ida Douma en samen krijgen ze zoon William.
